First of Three New Grand Junction Fire Stations Under Construction
The city of Grand Junction is getting three new fire stations and the first one is under construction.
Remember last April when we voted on the First Responders Tax? Well, this is the first of three fire stations that are being built as a result of that measure passed by Grand Junction voters.
Station 6 is located at 729 27 Road, which is just north of G Road. The new station will house a ladder truck, an ambulance crew. Six firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, and at some point, an additional battalion chief will staff the station 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The 10,009 square foot structure will a fitness room, specialized equipment, a washing machine for protective equipment, along with eight bedrooms, a kitchen, a living area, and an undisclosed number of bathrooms.
All of the Grand Junction Fire Stations have specialty functions or duties, and Station #6 will be the primary "mutual aid partner" for Grand Junction Regional Airport for EMS and fire operations.
Construction crews are working weekdays during business hours and have poured the driveway and continued work on the foundation. The new fire station is expected to be open in November.
