First Nursing Home in Grand Junction Receives COVID-19 Vaccines

200 people at Larchwood Inns Rehab & Nursing Facility are getting COVID-19 vaccines. This is the first Grand Junction nursing home to receive COVID-19 vaccines.

The first nurse to get a COVID-19 vaccine at St. Mary's Medical Center, Loree Cutts, received her vaccine on December 16th. According to Mesa County Public Health, vaccines are made available to the highest-risk individuals first.

According to The Daily Sentinel, Larchwood Inns in Grand Junction is the first nursing home in Grand Junction to receive COVID-19 vaccines as of yesterday, Wednesday, January 6. The rehab and nursing facility received the Pfizer vaccine, which is a two-dose series 'given within a 21-28 day period,' just like the Moderna vaccine.

A total of 200 people will be given the COVID-19 vaccine, which includes both residents and staff. Since the rehab and nursing facility has been shut down since March, there's a lot of excitement, according to The Daily Sentinel.

Larchwood Inns will continue to be cautious and social distance, according to their Facebook page these are the current guidelines for visitors:

• You must schedule a visit ahead of time
• 2 visitors per visit (must be at least 18 years old)
• Go to the main entrance to be screened
• Remain at least 6 feet apart during the visit
• No pets allowed

Humans are naturally social creatures and we can't imagine what it'd be like to be so distant from our loved ones. It's one thing to be able to see them, but it's another to actually be able to hold and hug them.
