This will be the 2nd Father's Day that I will not be able to wish my dad a happy Father's Day. Like so many others my father passed away, and it's just tough when approaching this "holiday" weekend.

When I was growing up my dad was my hero. He was the provider for our family, he was tough but always caring. There are no words that can take away the pain of him not being here anymore but it is the reality of the situation. And what I have come to realize in the almost two years since he left us is how lucky I was to have such a tremendous father for 30+ years.

Father's Day just isn't the same since he is gone but it's always nice to try to do something to remember him like eat one of his favorite meals or put on one of his favorite movies. And always remember the amazing memories we created when he was here.

My dad had health issues leading up to his death, but no matter what, you can never prepare for losing a parent. I'm very fortunate to have a great family who leans on each other through tough times, so I am sure we will all be talking this weekend.

If you are reading this and still have the ability to call your parents, I want to share a quote from J.K. Simmons as he won his Oscar Award back in 2015 and this has always stuck with me.

And if I may, call your mom, everybody. I’ve told this [to], like, a billion people, or so. Call your mom, call your dad. If you’re lucky enough to have a parent or two alive on this planet, call ‘em. Don’t text. Don’t email. Call them on the phone. Tell ‘em you love ‘em, and thank them, and listen to them for as long as they want to talk to you.

Happy Father's Day to all dads, and thank you for your efforts each day to provide for your family.
