To some people, it might seem a bit early since we’re still in the month of March. No matter how you look at it, Easter Sunday is coming up this weekend.

With each passing year, one might wonder what activities are on the schedule during the Easter weekend. In order to help out with that, here is a partial listing of Easter-related events going on this holiday weekend.

  • Redlands Community Church will present Experience the Passion from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 29TH at the church, 2327 Broadway in Grand Junction. Experience some of the sights, sounds, and scents of the Passion of our Lord. Activities include exhibits representing many of the scenes from the last hours of Christ’s life on earth. Redlands Community is encouraging everyone to invite family, friends and neighbors to meditate on the Easter story. This event is free. For more information, call the church at 245-9020.
  • Revivalists David and Michele Murphy will hold a “Fires of Revival” meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 29TH at the Montrose Quality Inn, 2751 Commercial Way in Montrose (next to McDonald’s).   • Grand Junction First Church of the Nazarene will host an Easter musical drama presentation and Celebration of Holy Communion at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 29TH. The event will take place at the church, 2802 Patterson Road in Grand Junction. For more information, call 245-3125.
  • Loma Community Church will host a Good Friday program featuring “The Voices of Praise,” a singing ensemble from Frontier School of the Bible. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 29TH at the church, 1307 Garfield in Loma. For more information, call 858-7147.
  • Northeast Christian Church will host a Good Friday communion service at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 29TH in the church chapel, 2751 Patterson Road in Grand Junction. For more information, call 243-6672.
  • The Western Colorado Botanical Gardens will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 30TH at the Botanical Gardens, 655 Struthers Avenue in Grand Junction. The Easter Egg Hunt will be divided into two categories – one for ages 1 to 4, and a second for ages 5 to 8. Children ages 1 to 4 will hunt for eggs on the front lawn, while children ages 5 to 8 will hunt eggs in the amphitheater. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m., and both hunts will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Children are encouraged to bring their own basket to the event. Those children finding golden eggs will win a mystery prize. The Easter Bunny will also be on hand to meet with the children. For more information, call 245-3288.
  • Victory Life Church will host an Easter Egg Hunt from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 30TH at the church, 2066 Highway 6 & 50 in Fruita. Everyone is encouraged to join in on the hunt, which will include candy-filled eggs, a puppet show, petting zoo, and games. For more information, call children’s pastor Janice Brunswick at 216-7411.
  • Grand Villa Assisted Living will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30TH at Grand Villa, 2680 North 15TH Street in Grand Junction. The event is geared towards children ages 10 and under. Admission is free. For more information, call 241-9706.
  • Victory Life Church will host a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, March 31ST at the church, 2066 Highway 6 & 50 in Grand Junction. A hot breakfast will follow at 7:30 a.m. and an Easter service at 8:30 a.m. The church will also host a continental breakfast at 10:00 a.m.; followed by another Easter Service at 10:45 a.m. VLC Choir will present special music during both Easter Services.   • The 19TH Annual Community Easter “Sonrise” Service in Montrose is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. Sunday, March 31ST on the south lawn of the Montrose Pavilion. The service will feature special music by Elaine Wood and a message from Richard Godsil. Bleachers, coffee, hot chocolate, and pastries will be provided, plus balloons for children.   • The Loma Easter Sunrise Service will take place at 7:00 a.m. Sunday, March 31ST at the River Boat Dock, near Exit 15 off I-70 in Loma. The Loma Community Church will provide breakfast following the Easter Sunrise Service. The breakfast is slated for 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the church, 1307 Garfield in Loma. Loma Community Church will also host an Easter celebration service at 10:00 a.m. For more information, call 858-7147.
  • Northeast Christian Church will host a sunrise service at 7:00 a.m. in an area located behind the church, 2751 Patterson Road in Grand Junction. A breakfast will follow at 7:45 a.m. in the Family Life Center of the church, and a special Easter service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. For more information, call 243-6672.
  • The Grand Valley Ministerial Alliance will hold its annual Grand Junction Easter Sunrise Service at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, March 31ST at the Suplizio Field baseball stadium, 12TH Street and North Avenue in Grand Junction. Admission is free, and everyone is encouraged to bring warm clothes and sunglasses or hat. In case of bad weather, services will be held in the Lincoln Park Barn.   • Grand Junction First Church of the Nazarene will participate in the community sunrise service Sunday, March 31ST at Stocker Stadium. After the sunrise service, First Church of the Nazarene will host a SONRISE breakfast at 8:00 a.m. at the church, 2802 Patterson Road in Grand Junction. Then at 10:45 a.m., the church will host a RESURRECTION CELEBRATION musical and dramatic presentation of  “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” by Bradley Knight.   • Unity Church of Grand Junction is inviting the public to join Unity’s congregations for their special Easter services at 10:30 a.m. at the church, 3205 North 12TH Street in Grand Junction. The Easter topic is “The Resurrection Principle”. Unity singers and musicians will provide special music. Other activities planned for Sunday morning is an Easter Egg Hunt (weather permitting) and a Love Dove Release at 11:45 a.m. at the front entrance to the church (also, weather permitting).   • The Messiah Choral Society will present its 9TH annual full performance of Handel’s Messiah Sunday, March 31ST at the Avalon Theater, 645 Main Street in Grand Junction. The event is considered a musical gift to the Grand Junction community (admission is free). An informance (a historical background of Handel’s Messiah) will begin at 1:45 p.m. and the actual concert will begin at 2:30 p.m. For more information, call 263-5700.
