DevilDriver’s Dez Fafara Talks Music Influences, Offers Industry Advice + More
With over two decades of experience under his belt, Dez Fafara is one of the most notable and raw frontmen you can ever see live. We got the chance to catch up with the DevilDriver vocalist as he spoke about some of the younger bands that interest him as well as what first caught his attention when he began listening to music. He also gives some very informative advice to his younger self that maybe helpful to those newer bands out there.
When we asked if there were any newer bands out there that get him pumped, Fafara talked about the guys from Cancer Bats, whom he has been on tour with. He also digs Whitechapel and says, ‘I’ve heard them coming out of my son’s room for years.” It just so happens Whitechapel recently announced a tour with DevilDriver. See the full list of dates below.
Fafara continues, “I keep my ear to the ground, I really do. I don’t want to be out of touch at all and plus I’ve got kids. When you’ve got a 15-year-old, an 18-year-old and a 22-year-old you hear everything in the house, probably before you’re going to hear it on the road or before most people become exposed to it.”
Fafara also delves deep into what got him into heavy metal music as well as his fondness for all types of genres of music, “I had my parents record collection and that’s what got me into music.”
