This year's Oscars just exponentially increased the cool factor: the Academy just announced Dave Grohl will give a "special performance" at this year's awards on Feb. 28.

It's not entirely certain, however, what Grohl will be playing or what his connection might be to the Oscars. He didn't write a song for any soundtracks and Foo FightersSonic Highways documentary isn't nominated.

One guess is that Grohl might pay tribute to one or some of the musicians who passed away during the last year – David Bowie being the most likely. (Of course, Bowie did once turn down a collaboration with Grohl.) But Grohl has been much more closely connected to Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister, who had far less of a presence in motion pictures than Bowie. There's also a chance it'll have to do with the Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck.

The Academy also added a batch of new presenters: Sacha Baron Cohen, Morgan Freeman, John Legend, J.J. Abrams and Henry Cavill.

Oscar producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to be joined by a movie icon, a filmmaking dynamo, a larger than life action hero, a master of satire and two world renowned music power-hitters. This year’s show reflects a commitment to showcase cinematic contributions from a variety of genres and this latest list of presenters reflects just that.”

Watch the Oscars on ABC at 8PM on Sunday, Feb. 28.
