Corey Taylor Reflects on Performing Prince’s Songs the Night of His Death
The music world was shocked to learn of the death of the iconic Prince on April 21 of this year. It just so happened that Slipknot / Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor had a gig scheduled at the famed First Avenue club in Prince's hometown of Minneapolis that night.
Taylor opened his show with an emotional rendition of Prince's classic "Purple Rain" and also played "Little Red Corvette" toward the end of his set. Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez recently caught up with Taylor at Live Nation's National Concert Day event in New York City, and she asked him what it was like performing those songs that night.
"It was heavy," says Taylor. "As a fan, you're kinda knocked back a lot. You're just like, 'Oh my god!' And it slowly dawns on you, 'Oh Christ, I'm playing First Avenue in Minneapolis the day that Prince died.'"
Taylor goes on to talk more about the performance, so watch the video interview above to get his full thoughts on that gig. And be sure to check out Slipknot on their summer tour with Marilyn Manson. Tickets are available here.
