Colorado’s Rainbow Gathering Not All Peace and Love This Year

The Rainbow Gathering is an event that has been around for some time in which thousands upon thousands of people come to celebrate peace, love, mother earth, and the hippie lifestyle as a whole.

However, as with any large gathering of people, there are bound to be some that break the rules and don't play nice. Unfortunately, this was the case at this year's Colorado Rainbow Gathering as well.

Colorado's Rainbow Gathering took place between July 4th and July 7th this year, although many of the attendees stuck around longer. The Gathering was held in Adams Park, a National Forest area in Routt County between Craig and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It has been reported that over 10,000 people attended.

Trouble at Colorado's Rainbow Gathering

Since its inception, the Rainbow Gathering has run into problems, some of which have involved the National Forest Service. In fact, the forest service often sees the gathering as less of a celebration of mother nature, but more of a burden.

In addition, authorities have also said that fentanyl use was widespread at the gathering, with a significant increase in possession and distribution of the dangerous drug over previous years. However, luckily, no medical emergencies involving the drug were reported.

The Rainbow Gathering also has a history of damaging forest lands and campgrounds that it occupies, as well as leaving trash and human waste behind.

Even more concerning is the history of violence at Rainbow Gatherings.

Violence has been reported at Rainbow Gatherings for years, the most serious in recent memory being the murder of Larry "Frank" Dugger at a Rainbow Gathering in Ocala National Forest last year.
