New Study Says Colorado Is the No. 1 Worst State for DUIs
U.S. News & World Report has released a new study detailing the least safe cities for U.S. drivers — and two Colorado cities are on the list.
The publication ranks Denver as the 21st worst city for driving in the country, while Colorado Springs comes in at No. 26. But why?
The study says the two cities rank highly regarding numerous risk factors, including fatal car accidents, average driving under the influence (DUI) arrests, and automobile theft.
Additionally, U.S. News & World Report notes that Colorado is the worst state in America for DUI arrests, with Denver and Colorado Springs coming in at Nos. 1 and 2 for DUI arrests per capita.
The study also aligns with recent press releases from Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

In January, the agency said impaired driving caused 37% of fatal Colorado car crashes last year, and in March, CSP revealed that 2022 was the state's worst for deadly accidents since 1981.
Automobile theft is another prominent issue in the Centennial State.
FOX31 reports that thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles in Colorado have increased by over 1,000% in the last four years, and catalytic converter thefts are still an ongoing problem in the state.
