U-Haul Releases Its List of Top Growth States for 2021

How exactly does U-Haul come up with this info? Well, if you stop and think about it, U-Haul would know who's moving where. That's pretty much their bread and butter.

According to myuhaulstory.com, U-Haul released a survey calculated on the basis of the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks.

Growth states are calculated by the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks entering a state versus leaving that state in a calendar year. Migration trends data is compiled from well over 2 million one-way U-Haul truck customer transactions that occur annually. - myuhaulstory.com

Six states making the top 10 in 2020 remained at the top for 2021. Four states came out of nowhere, one from as low as #39 in 2020, to make it to the top ten.

Which State Had the Highest Out-Migration

This should come as no surprise. The state with the most traffic moving out would be none other than California. Before anyone says, "No, duh," please keep one thing in mind. According to myuhaulstory.com, "That can be partially attributed to the fact that U-Haul simply ran out of inventory to meet customer demand for outbound equipment." Personally, I have no difficulty believing people simply wanted to get out of California.

Let's Head South

What's interesting is the number of southern states making the top 10. Florida and Tenessee have been hanging out in the top 10 for some time.

You'll notice Hawaii didn't make the list. Who wants to drive a U-Haul across the ocean?

Colorado Words That Most People Can't Pronounce Properly

In Colorado, we have a lot of words, primarily names, that out-of-towners would likely have trouble pronouncing. Many of these names originated from Native American languages, Spanish, and others.

While being a Colorado native, I didn't personally have trouble pronouncing any of these, but I can understand why someone would.
