The Ugliest Town in Colorado May Not Surprise You
Throughout the many drives that I have done in Colorado, there are a few towns where my wife and I have looked at each other, and without even saying a word came to an agreement we would stop at the next town.
Most of those towns are either in the far eastern parts or the extreme southwest of Colorado. But where is officially the ugliest town in Colorado?
Alot Travel has compiled an entire list of the ugliest cities in each state, and I am kind of surprised when it came to the town they chose for our state of Colorado.
Lochbuie, Colorado is the state's ugliest town, according to Alot Travel.
Lochbuie became was incorporated in 1974 and is situated in both Adams and Weld counties off of Interstate 76. According to the Town of Lochbuie's history page, a 12-acre mobile home park owned by Gordon McClain was the catalyst for the town. The mobile home park was named Spacious Living but was nicknamed Space City.
It wasn't until 1974 that residents of Spacious Living voted to incorporate the town to improve the water and sewer system. The vote also came with a new town name. Lochbuie. The name Lochbuie was chosen after McClain's grandparents' ancestral home of Lochbuie, Isle of Mull, Scotland.
Lochbuie is 3.25 square miles at an elevation of 5,020 feet above sea level and is 15 miles northeast of the capital city of Colorado, Denver. Today, there are 1,867 housing units, 82 acres of open space, and six public parks.
Why has Lochbuie been voted the ugliest town in Colorado?
Alot Travel deemed Lochbuie the ugliest town in Colorado due to only a few key factors. They state the town is flat and gray; and the lack of flora is why it was chosen. Apparently, the folks at Alot Travel have not ever ventured further east than the Interstate 25 corridor. There is a reason why there is not an abundant amount of trees when you head east. It's called wind.
I can personally think of at least five other cities or towns in the state of Colorado that could be awarded this disparaged award ... but my momma always told me "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." That's exactly what I plan to do.
