However, one thing you may not have learned in school about Colorado is the state motto. In fact, not only is it fascinating to find out Colorado's motto, but neighboring states' mottos are just as interesting.
What is Colorado's State Motto?
Colorado's official state motto is the Latin phrase Nil sine numine, which translates to "nothing without the diety."

Colorado is not alone in having an official state motto in Latin, and not alone in having a religious-themed motto, but the states that border the Centennial State don't all necessarily follow this particular theme.
What Are Colorado's Neighboring States' Mottos?
Like Colorado, Kansas and New Mexico's official state mottos are in Latin but not religious in nature. The official motto of Kansas is Ad astra per aspera, which translates to "to the stars through difficulties," and the official motto of New Mexico is Crescit eundo which translates to "it grows as it goes."
As we move around the states that border we find that Wyoming's motto is simply, "Equal Rights," Utah's is "Industry," and Nebraska's official state motto is "Equality Before the Law."
It certainly is interesting to discover the official mottos of each state and you can check out the list of all 50 mottos here.
