With the Colorado weather going from hot and cold, mountains are in the avalanche danger zone.

A video captured the dangers of this when a skier accidentally caused an avalanche. He got buried up to his waist but made it out with minor injuries.

This safety warning doesn't just apply to skiers, though. Snow-shoes and even sleds can also cause disturbances in the unstable snow and create an avalanche.

Be prepared when you go out exploring on a Colorado mountain. Bring a shovel or probe if you can. Make sure to let people know when and where you are going as well; this simple act might sound childlike, but it can save your life.

You can also check the likelihood of an avalanche occurring in the area you are going out to explore.
