Colorado Musician’s ‘Jeopardy’ Host Petition Gets 58k+ Signatures
2020 has been a rough year for a lot of reasons, and one of the most recent tragedies was the unfortunate passing of longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek. Now, as the show searches for a replacement, a Colorado musician has started a petition to name LeVar Burton the next host is really taking off.
The musician, Joshua "Schwa" Sanders of folk band 'Fables of the Fall,' created the petition as a joke earlier this week, and is just as surprised as anyone else about the scope of which it has gained attention. In fact, with over 58,000 signatures, the change.org petition has even grabbed the attention of Burton himself. The 'Reading Rainbow' and 'Star Trek' actor tweeted this:
Even if nothing comes from it, I can’t tell how much I appreciate all y’alls love and support! Of course while I’m very flattered by the petition, my thoughts are definitely with Alex Trebeck’s family and his millions of fans and the devastating loss of this irreplaceable legend.
Sanders is no stranger to campaigning for change, as he is well-known in the Denver area for pushing to combat climate change and equal pay. He is also a big fan of Burton's work and even though it began as a joke, is serious about the petition now. He had this to say about his love and admiration for the actor:
He really has shaped everybody. He’s got such a wholesome personality. He educates people to read. Reading Rainbow was designed to help with reading comprehension loss for kids over the summer. I love that. I watched that show all the time when I was a kid.
