From the initial announcement until very recently, the new Colorado music venue was being called Sunset Amphitheater, an 8,000-capacity venue in the Polaris Pointe neighborhood of the Olympic City.
However, a recent announcement revealed that the amphitheater had sold its naming rights to a major automobile manufacturer which may cause some confusion for Coloradans.
Colorado Will Soon Have Two Ford Amphitheaters
The announcement came from the venue's official Facebook page and revealed that the new amphitheater will be officially known as Ford Amphitheater:
Now, if you're familiar with the iconic ski town of Vail, Colorado, you likely know that there has been a concert venue named Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater for many years, affectionately known as Ford Amphitheater by the locals.
In fact, the former United States President and his First Lady, Betty Ford, have numerous landmarks that carry their names in the Vail Valley and are widely known to have been residents of nearby Beaver Creek.
In case you're not familiar, Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater is an absolutely gorgeous venue with a capacity of roughly 2,600 and hosts a slew of concerts each year, many of which are free of charge.
The new Ford Amphitheater in Colorado Springs is set to open this August with three consecutive concerts from hometown heroes OneRepublic.
