Colorado Police Warn Against Recent ‘Jugging’ Crimes
A term that has been added to the public’s vocabulary fairly recently, jugging, refers to a crime in which thieves follow an unsuspecting victim from a bank to a secondary location to steal their freshly withdrawn cash and appears to be on the rise in Colorado.
Jugging is Happening in Colorado
While the term ‘jugging’ can also refer to a process in which an entire animal is stewed in a casserole container, a method of climbing a rope, or a fishing technique, the term has recently made headlines to describe a means of stealing one’s money.

Jugging refers to a crime in which a criminal follows a person who has just withdrawn cash from an ATM or a bank to a secondary location and proceeds to forcibly take said cash from the victim after they’ve arrived.
Unfortunately, this method of theft appears to be becoming more common in Colorado recently.
Colorado Police Warn Residents to Be Aware of Jugging
Over the weekend of October 11-12, 2025, an instance of jugging was reported in Lakewood, Colorado, prompting police to warn Colorado residents to be on the lookout for criminals attempting to steal money from them using this tactic.
While not necessarily considered an epidemic, roughly 25 jugging incidents have been reported in the Denver area alone in the past year.
Officials recommend that Coloradans pay close attention to loiterers around banks and ATMs when making transactions in which they leave the premises with cash in order to avoid becoming a victim of jugging.
