How Smart Are Colorado Residents in 2025?

According to the new study, Colorado boasts an average IQ of 101.6 among its residents. On a national scale, this data places Colorado as the 20th smartest state, just above the median in the country.

What States Have a Higher Average IQ than Colorado in 2025?

With schools like Harvard, Boston College, and one of the most prestigious music schools in the world, Berklee, it should come as no surprise that Massachusetts has the highest average IQ among its residents in the country.

Massachusetts is followed by the home of Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Vermont, Minnesota, Maine, Montana, Iowa, Connecticut, which is home to the Ivy League school Yale University, Wisconsin, Kansas, New Jersey, which is home to Princeton University, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Virginia, Washington, Ohio, and Indiana when it comes to average IQ scores in 2025 with Colorado rounding out the top 20.

Where Do Colorado's Neighboring States Land on the National IQ List?

As mentioned above, Kansas, Wyoming, and Nebraska all boast higher average IQ scores than Colorado in 2025, with figures of 102.8, 102.4, and 102.3, respectively.

On the other side, states like Utah, Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico reported lower average IQ scores with figures of 101.1, 99.3, 97.4, and 95.7, respectively.

On a national scale, New Mexico was ranked as having the 5th-lowest IQ scores in the nation, trailed only by Hawaii, California, Louisiana, and Mississippi, the state with the lowest average IQ score in the nation of 94.2. 

Fortunately, Colorado is considerably higher than the national average of 100.3.
