Some Colorado hunters are going to be happy to know they may be able to get a refund on their hunting license.

Several wildfires are burning in Colorado which is creating some direct and indirect issues on public lands. That means that hunters who hold a license in units impacted by wildfires may be eligible for a refund. There are road closures affecting hunter access in some areas due to no less than nine active wildfires in Colorado.

Not every license is eligible for a refund. There are some licenses that allow hunters to hunt in more than one unit, which means a refund is not an option. The available units may not be the hunter's first choice, but they are options. And, the fact is, some of those areas might actually become more desirable because of the fires.

Here's where you can check to see if your license is available for a refund. Some of the licenses available for a refund include moose, mountain goat, sheep, elk, deer, bear, and pronghorn.

For a lot of Colorado hunters, the big game hunting season is the best time of the year. They look forward to it and plan for it all year. Some are being disappointed because their particular area is not available. At least getting a refund can help them find a silver lining in the disappointment.

While Colorado wildfires are burning thousands of acres, the amount of land affected is relatively small considering the fact the state has more than 23 million acres of public land. Hunters should definitely check with Colorado Parks and Wildlife before heading out.
