Grand Junction’s New Rec Center Is Looking for Local Artists to Create Murals
For quite some time, residents of Grand Junction, Colorado, have been lobbying for a new recreation center to be built, and now, it is finally coming to fruition.

As the new rec center is being built, the city of Grand Junction is also enlisting the help of visual artists to add some paintings to the new project, including three murals and three other paintings that will be prominently displayed once the building opens to the public.
Grand Junction, Colorado, Rec Center is Seeking Visual Artists
The City of Grand Junction, in conjunction with the city’s Commission on Arts and Culture, has placed a total of six calls for artists to send submissions to be selected as artwork to be painted at the new rec center that is currently under construction.
The three murals will be located in the Child Watch area of the rec center, the Community Room, and the Mezzanine Fitness area.
The other three paintings will be featured on some of the building’s acoustic panels, an area that’s being called the “story wall,” and another called the “recognition wall.”
Submissions are currently being accepted at the City of Grand Junction’s official website, which you can access here, until February of 2026, and the art is scheduled to be installed between July and August of next year.
These calls for local art mirror the city of Grand Junction’s longtime status of being a strong supporter of the arts, as made evident by installations featured on Main Street and elsewhere, as well as First Friday celebrations that are held throughout the year.
