Should Colorado Become a Hot Spot for Filming TV and Movies?

Colorado is known for a lot of things, but its natural beauty is arguably at the top of the list. The snow-capped mountains might serve as the perfect backdrop for a movie set in the wilderness, the eastern plains could be an ideal setting for a gritty western, and film directors could get really creative with a film set in a place like Garden of the Gods.

Interestingly, some Colorado lawmakers are pushing to pass a bill that, in theory, would encourage filmmakers to shoot more projects in the state but as with many new ideas, there are multiple cons that counteract the pros.

Colorado Lawmakers Seek to Pass Bill to Incentivize Filmmaking

If passed, House Bill 24-1358 would adjust certain limitations currently in place which would make it more affordable and convenient for filmmakers to shoot movies and TV shows in Colorado.

The proposed bill has garnered support from prominent film industry organizations such as members of the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Colorado Film Commission.

Supporters of the bill argue that regular and frequent filming would ultimately be beneficial to the state's economy and create numerous jobs.

However, not everyone is on board with the proposed idea. While growth in filmmaking would undoubtedly create jobs, some argue that passage of the bill would also negatively impact things like traffic, cost of living, and depending on where a set is located, may be harmful to Colorado's aforementioned natural beauty and the state's overall environment.
