Colorado Child Support Services Gets Upgrade, What You Need to Know
The Colorado Department of Human Services has new changes coming in 2022 to make things a bit easier when it comes to receiving child support.
According to a press release from the Colorado Department of Human Services, there are two important updates when it comes to receiving and applying for child support.
Applying for Child Support in Colorado
Previously those seeking to apply to receive child support in Colorado were required to pay an application fee of $20. Effective January 1, 2022, those applying for child support no longer have to pay an application fee.

Receiving Child Support in Colorado
Starting on January 4, 2022, parents receiving child support will now receive those payments electronically.
“This is part of our ongoing commitment to serving parents and guardians to make sure all Colorado kids get the financial support they need to thrive,” said Larry Desbien, director of Child Support Services.
“Electronic distribution is a more convenient, secure and reliable way to get funds to recipients.”
Payments can be direct deposited or can be received via a child support payment card. There is no fee, and the funds will be loaded into a pre-paid debit card. The card can be used wherever Visas are accepted. Transactions and card balance can also be viewed online.
CDHS also states, "electronic distribution of child support funds is safer, as there will no longer be any lost or forged checks, and it also ensures that funds get to families in a more timely manner."
