Collective Soul Find ‘Them Blues’ in Prince Inspiration – Premiere
Collective Soul are closing in on the release date for their latest album, Blood, and they've teamed up with Loudwire to bring you the exclusive premiere of the new song "Them Blues" from the forthcoming release.
According to lead singer E. Roland, the track came about while he was revisiting a childhood favorite, Prince's "Purple Rain." "I said, 'That's a cool, quick chord progression,' and I started mucking it up even more, not on purpose, but because I'm a horrible piano player, but thinking 'Ooh, I like that,' and 'I like that,'" recalls Roland. "It kind of just started with me playing 'Purple Rain,' but it's nothing like it." As for what inspired the lyrical content, watch Roland's video explanation posted below the song audio.
"Them Blues" follows on the heels of "Right as Rain" and "Good Place to Start" off the upcoming Blood album. The full-length is due June 21, and you can currently get your pre-order reserved right here.
With the album done and the band just waiting for its release, they've hit the road for dates with another fellow band that broke out in the '90s, Gin Blossoms. You can see their tour dates, along with some solo shows, listed below, while ticketing for all Collective Soul shows can be found here.
