I have had the pleasure of visiting Canyonlands National Park several times in my life. It has canyons, obviously. According to a recent honor the park has received, it's apparent that not only did I visit during the wrong time of day, but I was looking in the wrong direction.

Stupid me has gone to Canyonlands during the day and actually looked at the CANYON. Little did I know that Canyonlands is really killer and night especially if you look at the sky. The Dark Sky Association (it really exists!) has awarded Canyonlands National Park Gold Tier International Dark Sky status. What does this mean? It means the area is super dark and is perfect to observe stunning night skies full of stars.

Wouldn't you get in trouble if you were in a national park after hours? Not if you're in Canyonlands since it never closes. Bravo. Congrats on the nice new trophy, Canyonlands. I promise next time I visit, I'll not only look at your beautiful canyons but will also take the time to look up.

Here's a video from someone who has already beaten me to it.
