Cameron Peak Fire Hits 56% Containment, Reaches 2 Months Burning

As the Cameron Peak Fire reached two months of burning in Northern Colorado, fire crews hit a milestone by getting more than half of the perimeter contained.

The latest official update put the fire at 134,960 acres with 56% containment.

Sunday snow and rain helped keep the fire in place, allowing crews to secure more of the perimeter. New containment was achieved mostly on the Northern edge of the fire, according to a Monday evening video update.

More than 800 are still fighting the flames daily.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office said crews used hose lines, back burning operations, and dug handline to protect homes and other structures in the active areas of the fire.
