Music giant BMG has just significantly added to their cache of great songs by acquiring the worldwide rights to Virgin Music Publishing Companies, Famous U.K. Music Publishing and select current songs from Sony/ATV and EMI Music Publishing. As part of the deal, they're acquiring tracks from artists like Nirvana, Iggy Pop, Lenny Kravitz, Tears for Fears and more.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the catalog includes publishing rights to some 21,000 songs. The jewel for BMG as part of this acquisition is the rights to Kurt Cobain's songs with Nirvana, including such hits as 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,' 'Come As You Are' and 'About a Girl.'

BMG's CEO Hartwig Masuch stated, "These catalogs contain some of the most influential and successful songs in popular music. We are delighted to have won the opportunity to represent the writers of those songs and to demonstrate to them BMG's commitment to 21st century service."

In addition to Nirvana and Cobain's songs, some of the top newly acquired material includes Tears for Fears' 'Shout,' Lenny Kravitz' 'Are You Gonna Go My Way,' the Jim Steinman-penned 'Total Eclipse of the Heart,' Devo's 'Whip It' and Iggy Pop's 'Lust for Life.'
