Baroness’ Nick Jost + Gina Gleason Play Their Favorite Riffs

Sometimes getting a brand new instrument can be just the thing to brighten your day. During a chat with The Music Experience's Squiggy, Baroness' Nick Jost and Gina Gleason discussed being part of the Fender family and rocked a few of their favorite riffs during this edition of Loudwire's Gear Factor.

For Gleason, making the switch to Fender was a welcome one, as she revealed she was playing a more shred-like guitar prior to joining the band. "I was playing with John [Baizley], and I was like, I don’t know if this sound is appropriate for the band," recalled the guitarist. "I always wanted a tele because they are a lot more surgical and I always loved them and the way they sounded. Then I started using the American Road teles, that’s what this is, a Fender Road telecaster. We just started using their gear because we liked it.”

Jost says he was playing Fenders before he came to the band, admitting he has a '64 Fender P bass that he's a little reluctant to bring out because of his reverence for the instrument. But now that he's part of the Fender family, he's happy to rep for them. "All my favorite dudes play Fender – Palladino, Jaco Pastorius, Geddy Lee – all these guys, you see that and it’s pretty sweet to get one sent to you,” says the bassist.

With this being Gear Factor, the two musicians also demonstrate some of their musical work. Gleason says that upon getting her American Road telecaster, one of the first things she wanted to try was "March to the Sea," embracing the bluegrass sound of the track.

Meanwhile, Jost says he enjoys the bite of his jazz bass, particularly the distortion when the band sits down to jam "Morningstar." Watch both musicians put their instruments to use in the video below.
