The very first human-powered ski area in the nation is set to open next month near Kremmling, and it's like nothing you've experienced before.

The brainchild of Erik Lambert and Jeff Woodward, the new ski area is known as Bluebird Backcountry and has everything you would expect a ski area to have except chair lifts.

The new ski area will have ski patrollers, guides, a base hut, a place to rent ski gear, instructors, a mountain warming hut, avalanche hazard reduction and more of everything you expect to find when you go skiing.

More and more skiers are looking for an experience that gets them away from the traditional ski areas and crowds and putting them into an area where they can enjoy skiing and not dodging other skiers. This area affords them exactly that.

The area is on private land near Whitley Peak on the southern end of the Rabbit Ears Range.

If you like the idea of back-country skiing, fewer people and more fun, you might want to check this one out.
