Authorities Searching For Missing Woman That Fell Into The South Fork Of The Rio Grande River
A Colorado Springs woman has been missing since Saturday night.
The search continues for a missing Colorado Springs woman. On Saturday evening a call came into the Mineral County Sheriff's Office reporting a woman fell into the south fork of the Rio Grande in Wolf Creek Pass along highway 160. The Sheriff's Office along with Search and Rescue and Emergency Management personnel and South Fork Fire Rescue conducted the initial search. They searched the area until midnight but couldn't find the missing woman. The search resumed Sunday morning with the assistance of the Colorado State Patrol without success. The search is now in its fourth day.
Apparently, the woman was standing on a rock overlooking the river when she slipped and fell into the water. That area of the Rio Grande is challenging. The river and canyon are narrow, deep and extremely rugged on a good day, however, this year's higher and faster water levels are making the situation and search more difficult. Rain and inclement weather has also hampered the search.
