An inmate at the Mesa County Detention Facility is facing attempted murder charges. The inmate is accused of stabbing another inmate with an improvised weapon.

David Castro from Clifton is facing murder charges because of an incident at the Mesa County Detention Facility on June 13. Castro is being accused of stabbing another inmate with an improvised weapon, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office Facebook.

Castro is facing the following charges for stabbing a fellow inmate:

  • Criminal Attempt of 1st Degree Murder
  • 1st Degree Assault
  • Felony Menacing

All of the charges Castro is facing are felonies. According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, this case is still under investigation.

The inmate who Castro stabbed was sent to the hospital to be treated and is now back the Mesa County Detention Facility. Castro is currently being held there as well on a no bond hold until his first appearance in court, according to the Mesa County Sherrif's Office.
