Another Inmate Found Unresponsive at Mesa County Jail
For the second time in less than a week an inmate has been found unresponsive in their cell at the Mesa County Detention Facility.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, a male inmate was found unresponsive in his cell around 5:30 Monday morning during routine security checks. CPR was performed and emergency medical services were dispatched. The inmate was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he was pronounced dead just before 2:00pm.
Authorities are investigating the cause and manner of death and will release the identity once next of kin has been notified.
Last Thursday, December 19th, a female inmate, 35-year-old Brittany Matthews of Grand Junction was found unresponsive in her cell while the morning meal was being served. Resuscitation efforts by jail staff and EMS personnel were also unsuccessful. Authorities say there were no injuries and the death did not appear to be suspicious.
