There are four major egg producers in the state of Colorado and most of them are in Weld County. Approximately 5.5 million egg-laying hens are currently in caged housing. However, the Colorado egg producers will have to transition over to cage-free hen housing by 2025.

Consumers appear to have been already pushing for cage-free eggs as have some retailers and restaurants. Places like Starbucks, McDonald's, Target, Safeway, and Kroger have already stated they will no longer sell or use caged eggs by 2025.
