September 24th 1991 the second studio album from Nirvana ‘Nevermind’ was released to the world. Expectations of the record label weren’t to high but what do they know. ‘Nevermind’ went on to become one of the great albums of our time.

The album was released with a young circumcised boy swimming after a dollar as the artwork. The three-month-old boy was Spencer Elden, the son of the photographer’s friend.

Geffen was concerned that it would offend some people because the boy’s penis was visible and prepared an alternate cover. That changed when Cobain made it clear the only compromise he would accept was a sticker covering the penis that would say, “If you’re offended by this, you must be a closet pedophile.”

The album replaced Michael Jackson’s ‘Dangerous’ at the top spot in the Billboard 200 in January of 1992 and has sold over 30 million copies world wide.

‘Nevermind’ was responsible for bring the alternative rock sound to mainstream audiences and is always highly ranked on the list of greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.

It may sound a little crazy but if you don’t have a copy of ‘Nevermind’ run out today and pick up a copy. It really is one of the great albums of our time.
