The grunge explosion of the early ‘90s was one of the greatest revolutions in rock history and will perhaps be the final time rock music definitively ruled the world. In this list, we count down our picks for the 10 Greatest Grunge Albums of All Time.

Nirvana may have broke the dam in 1991, but Soundgarden had been building pressure for years previous. The band released two killer albums in the 1980s before putting out Badmotorfinger… the exact same day Nirvana released Nevermind. Soundgarden would later win two Grammy awards in 1994 in both the Best Metal Performance and Best Hard Rock Performance categories.

The grunge act most consistently churning out quality records is undoubtedly Alice in Chains, stretching their successful run of albums into the 2010s. Nearly three decades after grunge broke, Dirt is arguably the album that’s aged the best, featuring absolutely no weak songs from front to back. The voice of Layne Staley will live on forever.

Still playing arenas and stadiums to this day, Pearl Jam’s success has been unprecedented amongst the surviving alt-rock / grunge bands. Both Ten and Vs. are widely regarded as some of the best albums ever made, selling 13 million and 7 million copies in the U.S., respectively.
