Since I'm the new rock radio guy in town, I'll go ahead and try to answer the question I know, sooner or later, I'm going to get, "What's The Best Concert Ever You've Seen?"

The truthful answer is, "I don't know."  I've been to hundreds of concerts. It's simply impossible to try and say which one's "the best". I can narrow it down for you. Some of my favorites of all time are The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over", Gun's & Roses opened for Aerosmith early after the "Appetite for Destruction" release and they tore it up! Pearl Jam at The Fox Theatre in St. Louis in 1994 was incredible!  I could go on, and on, and on. My point is, there's just too many to possibly pick one. What I can do is share my top 5 from the last year or so. And too, my memory is much sharper when it comes to recent history.

Black Sabbath February 17th, 2016 in KC was a real surprise.

Black Sabbath February 17th, 2016 in KC was a real surprise! I had tamped down my expectations given the guy's age, and Ozzy's recent health issues. I didn't think I'd see much more than guys going through the motions. What I saw was a great show! Yes, I know it's Black Sabbath, but these guys are long past their prime but they delivered a great show!

Tool January 20th at The Sprint Center in KC was great! That's no surprise, they're always great but this show was special and they were as solid as ever.

Stones

There's no way The Rolling Stones don't make my "Recent Top 5". That June evening at Arrowhead Stadium was unforgettable.  I've seen The Stones many times but this night, they were at the top of their game, even at their advanced age. They didn't mess around either, playing hit, after hit, after hit.

The Rush R40 Tour in KC was special as well.  This would be the last time I would see my favorite band as they had already announced their retirement from touring. This was my 3rd show on this tour, having seen the opener in Tulsa, and a show in Omaha. The concert taking the audience backward in time from "Clockwork Angles" all the way back to the debut Rush and "Working Man".

Foo Fighters

Finally, The Foo Fighter's certainly make the cut. September 30th in Wichita, KS (The KC show was already sold out), with the broken leg and all, Dave Grohl and the boys rocked the house!  They too cranked out the hits and blew the crowd away!  Great concert!

Well, there you have it. My"recent" top 5. So now when we're at a show we can have a beer and talk about something else besides "What's my favorite concert". I can't really answer that question anyway. That's why I keep going to shows. The next one may be my next favorite! We'll see you there!
