'Weird Al' Yankovic has been putting out hilarious parody songs for 30 years, and he's as hot as ever with his latest disc, 'Mandatory Fun.' While he was out promoting the album, we had the opportunity to ask him about his phone conversation with Kurt Cobain when he was seeking permission to spoof Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.'

Poking fun at the inability to understand the lyrics in 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,' Weird Al scored a hit of his own with his parody 'Smells Like Nirvana.' His video, which closely mirrored the Nirvana original, also became a big hit on MTV at the time.

Weird Al has admitted that the song helped revive his career after the box-office failure of his feature film 'UHF.' We had to ask him what that conversation with Kurt Cobain was like. For one, Weird Al says he wishes he had recorded it, but his memory of the dialogue is still quite vivid.

Check out our video interview with Weird Al above to get the full story on his conversation with Kurt Cobain. And be sure to pick up Weird Al's new album, 'Mandatory Fun,' at iTunes or Amazon.
