THURSDAY, AUGUST 1st

  • Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for U Fix It Garage (2757 B Highway 50 South in Grand Junction) at 4:00 p.m. For more information, call 242-3214
  • Downtown Farmers Market, 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Main Street in Grand Junction.
  • The Infamous String Dusters will perform in concert at 6:00 p.m. at James M. Robb Colorado Riverfront State Park in Fruita. The concert is part of the Riverfront Concert Series. Tickets are free with a $2.50 processing fee. Tickets are available at all City Market stores. For more information, call 683-4333.
  • Discover your superpowers with the John McConnell Math & Science Center (2660 Unaweep Avenue in Grand Junction). From 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., the Math & Science Center will host a Family Science Night, which will feature hands-on experiments inspired by super heroes. Admission is $5 per family.   • The Theater Project will present “Little Shop of Horrors” at 7:00 p.m. at Creative Avenues, 835 North 26TH Street in Grand Junction (behind the Teller Arms Shopping Center). Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors. Box office opens one hour before showtime.
  • Flat Top Reed will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Fruita Civic Center Pavillion. Admission is free.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 2nd

  • Glade Park Movie Under the Stars will present the movie “Hidalgo” at the Glade Park Fire Department, just west of the Glade Park Store on DS Road. Concession stand opens at 5:30 p.m., grill opens at 6:00 p.m., live entertainment begins at 7:00 p.m., and movie starts at dusk.
  • The Western Colorado Dragway will host a drag racing state competition at the Dragway, 115 32 Road in Grand Junction. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m., test & tune will begin at 7:00 p.m., and then the eliminations will start after the track prep. Gate fee is $10 for non-members, $5 for members, and 12 & under are free.   • Shemekia Copeland will perform in concert as part of the Riverfront Concert Series. The concert will begin at 6:00 p.m. at James M. Robb Colorado Riverfront State Park in Fruita.   • The next event in the “First Friday Art Walk” series will take place at The Raw Canvas Custom Tattoo Studio and Art Gallery, 507 Main Street in Grand Junction. From 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., The Raw Canvas will feature an art opening, featuring 20 local artists around the theme “Restoration to life, consciousness, vigor and strength.” Special musical guest is The Constant Tourists. Food and drinks will be provided.

  • Yes, it’s true – the Olathe Sweet Corn Festival is taking place in Olathe, and will go on at the Olathe Community Park, 1300 Park Place in Olathe. Gates open at 9:00 a.m.
  • Powderhorn Ski Area will present “Summer Celebration at Powderhorn” from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Several activities are scheduled throughout the day, including a BBQ & Chili Cook-off, Bungee Tramp & Kids Corner, and live music on the Sunset Deck in the afternoon.   • Allen Unique Autos Museum will present a “Hot Summer Night Car Show” from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the museum, 2285 River Road in Grand Junction. This event has free admission with adult beverages available for purchase, along with summer food, live entertainment, auto museum tours, prizes and giveaways, and a bump and jump. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Wine Country Inn Courtyard, 777 Grande River Drive in Palisade. This concert will benefit Partners. Tickets are $20, and are available at Fishers Liquor Barn, Roper Music, and Grande River Vineyards.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 4th

  • The Town of Palisade sponsors the Palisade Sunday Market from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Downtown Palisade.

MONDAY, AUGUST 5th

  • Monday is Colorado Day, and to help celebrate the occasion, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will offer free entrance at all 42 state parks. Colorado Day was created by the state legislature to mark the anniversary of statehood, granted in 1876 by President Ulysses S. Grant. The free park entrance includes Highline Lake and all five sections of James M. Robb
  • Grand Junction Rockies baseball continues its series against Orem at 7:05 p.m. at Suplizio Field
