Ultimate Pork and Hops Survival Guide

As a Colorado Pork and Hops veteran, I have seen a lot of people come to the event well prepared and others who are ill prepared. Here's a list of essentials that will help you survive the event.

First and foremost, dress for the event. Casual is best. Athletic or hiking shoes, boots and flip flops are acceptable. High heels and bare feet only beg for trouble.

Also, here are some important things you want to make sure you take with you to make the experience the best it can be.

• Photo ID and cash - If you want to enjoy the hops, you need proof of age and money to buy beer, soft drinks, water and food. Plan on five to ten bucks a meal for food and two to five bucks per beverage.
• Camp or lawn chair - This is a bring your own seating event. Blankets are good seating for the kids or if you want to stretch out and relax, but chairs are best.
• Sunglasses and hats - It's the best way to protect your eyes and your noggin'.
• Sunscreen - There's nothing like a sunburn to ruin a perfectly good day at the park. Lip balm is also a good idea.
• Light jacket or blanket - It does cool off once the headline acts start. You may or may not need these items, but it's better to be comfortable than cold.
• Hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes - Beer and BBQ can be pretty messy. The vendors have napkins, but it may not be enough to keep you and your family clean.
• Tissues - For your nose and for other areas if the porta-potties are out of toilet paper. If you're really phobic about public toilets, buy or make your own public toilet survival kit.
• Pain relievers and antacids - The medics on-site can give you a bandage and resuscitate you, but they don't dispense medications. If you get a headache or heartburn, you're on your own, so keep some handy. You'll be back in action quickly.

The most important survival tip doesn't require anything except the attitude this is a great way to spend time with friends and family having fun, listening to some incredible music and enjoying great food and drink.

One more thing, hearing protection not included, so bring your own if you're bothered by loud - but not too loud - music.
