I didn't have big plans for the weekend - but I did have a plan. That plan included Twinkies. Buying them. Eating them. Enjoying them. Mission accomplished!

After many months in hibernation, Twinkies have made their way back to store shelves in recent days. As I have stated previously, I am not a big Twinkie eater - but I love Twinkies. How can this be? Let me explain it this way.

I think a lot of us are this way. There are things that we enjoy eating - but often times because of our health-consciousness we limit our intake of such things. For example, I love funnel cakes. Love them! Yet, I probably have only one per  year. Some of you might recall the pictures I posted from JUCO, when I indulged in a bacon-wrapped sausage on a stick, and deep fried cheese curds. Certainly not an every day occurrence. (By the way, if you missed the pictures, here they are.)

So it is with delicious Twinkies.I can't imagine that eating a handful of Twinkies on occasion is taking years off your life, or adding inches to your waistline, although  a steady diet of them admittedly  certainly would not be good for your health. The other part of this is that if you ate Twinkies every day, or every week, or even every month, you wouldn't not enjoy them nearly as much as you do when you only have them occasionally. By limiting your intake of  yummy treats like Twinkies, you are actually magnifying the pleasure of the party in your mouth when you do decide to indulge.

So Twinkies are back. Are they the same? Of course, we know they have come back with a longer shelf life, but all we really care  about is, how they taste. Are they as good as they have always been? The answer is yes. They are every bit as good as I remember they have always been. I enjoyed  2 1/2 Twinkies over the weekend, but I have more tasting to do, since my good wife bought two boxes. Maybe I will put some of them away for a while, and see if they taste as good near the end of their now-proclaimed 45 day shelf life.

I'm interested in your Twinkies story and your feelings about these golden cakes. Take the survey below, and if you have a story email it to me and I might share it on the air.
