This Tuesday (August 6) is THE night to check out – that's when neighborhoods across the country will prepare for National Night Out 2013.

National Night Out is a community effort that promotes involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and sending a message that neighborhoods are organized in fighting crime.

The Grand Junction Police Department is encouraging area residents to check out which neighborhoods are planning events for National Night Out.

Grand Junction police officers plan to visit each event, at which time they will provide neighbors with important information about keeping crime out of their neighborhoods and to answer questions.

Grand Junction fire fighters also plan to visit many of the events as well to provide important safety information.

A list of all the registered Grand Junction neighborhoods can be found at www.gjcity.org/NationalNightOut.

And – as McGruff the Crime Dog would say – let's take a bite out of crime!
