Every year people put out the big scary movie list for Halloween. You know those lists of movies that you must watch this month. Most of them are cool movies but there is only one scary movie for Halloween, “The Exorcist”.

In 1973 The Scariest movie ever made was released to the world. The reason I think it is the scariest is because it is based on a true story.

In 1949 a 13-year-old boy from the Washington D.C. area was brought to Alexian Brothers Hospital in South St. Louis. According to reports he was suffering from demonic possession.

A Jesuit priest named Father Raymond Bishop SJ was one of the participants in the exorcism and he kept a diary of the events. No one knew about the diary until the wing that the exorcism took place in was torn down. The diary was found locked in a desk drawer.

Now I never got to see the diary but after it was found there where several reporters that got to see it and did local news stories on it. The diary talked about the boy suffering from words scratched into his skin, food flying through the air and furniture moving around the room.

Here comes the scary part. After a few news stories hit the Vatican showed up and took possession of the diary claiming it was the property of the church. The diary is now in the Vatican archives and no one is allowed to see it.

I don’t know if you buy into these sorts of things but I can tell you there are a ton of stories in St. Louis about the weird things that have happened at that hospital over the years. I know some people who will not go there because of these events. Happy Halloween.
