The world's best winter sports and music festival is in Aspen this weekend.

The center of the extreme sports universe will be Aspen, Colorado this weekend as world-class athletes descend on Aspen Snowmass. Winter X Games Aspen are this Thursday, January 24th through Sunday the 27th.

The Winter X Games got their start in Aspen at Buttermilk Mountain back in 2002. The games televised live on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC was a huge rating success. Over the last 17 years, the event has grown adding new events including the ski slopestyle event, ski superpipe, snowboarding, skateboarding, snowmobiling, and more! New this year is the knuckle huck. What's that? It's where athletes launch themselves off the knuckle (instead of the Big Air jump) and throw their most impressive tricks and stunts. The competitors get so much air doing this style of jumping it jacks up the pressure to pull off even more insane tricks. All the competitions are free and open to the public.

Along with the amazing games are the just as amazing concerts! X Games Aspen musical performers include Lil Wayne Friday evening, Louis The Child on Saturday afternoon, The Chainsmokers Saturday night, and Kygo on Sunday.
