Margaret Groening the mother of Matt Groening and the inspiration for the iconic blue haired TV queen has passed away in Portland at the age of 94. Born Margaret Wiggum (another "Simpsons" reference!), the high school English teacher's accomplishments include being named high school valedictorian as well as May Queen of Linfield College. She married Homer, her high school classmate, "because he made her laugh the most."

It’s well known that Matt Groening creator of “The Simpsons” named the Springfield family after his own. Matt lost his father “Homer” in 1996; he was a cartoonist and lover of donuts. Groening created the show to provide an alternative to the “mainstream trash”, I would say it worked as “The Simpsons” have been on now for 24 seasons and counting.
