The 2017 Grand Junction Rockies campaign gets underway on Monday evening. It's a sure sign summer's here and nothing beats an evening at the ballpark.

Baseball is one of those games better watched in person. The beer, hot dogs, and peanuts are all part of the tradition. Monday evening kicks off another season of GJ Rockies baseball as they take on the Idaho Falls "Chukars."

There's something special about minor league baseball. Nearly every market I've worked had a local team. While in Lawrence, Kansas all the locals made it over to KCK to watch the "T-Bones". In Springfield Missouri, it was the St. Louis Cardinal farm team, and in Wichita, Kansas, with my favorite minor league team name, the "Wingnuts."

With Father's Day coming up grab dad and take the family out to Stoker Stadium Monday night for the opener.

With the new season comes the hope of a better result. Last season the team finished 36-39. That landed the Rockies fourth in the Pioneer League South Division. Let's hope the guys can improve on that record this year. Summer's here, take me out to the ballgame!
