‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Producer Coyly Teases New Faces, Lineup Changes
The sequel to 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy is fast approaching, only two short weeks out from today. But of course the media blitz has long since begun, wallpapering major cities with colorful posters depicting the main lineup of intergalactic crimefighters/occasional crime-doers. Sharp-eyed fans will notice some shifting personnel, too — blue-faced gun-for-hire Yondu (Michael Rooker) earned a lot of fans with his magical floating murder-arrow in the first film, and has been accordingly bumped up to main-cast status through sheer fan demand. As for new faces, Kurt Russell and Pom Klementieff bring some fresh blood to the franchise as Star-Lord’s long-lost father Ego and empath servant girl Mantis, respectively.

Though Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 has actually been filming for over a week or so (the cast and crew have been posting shots from the set, including that crew chair you see above), Marvel and Disney officially announced the start of production this morning. Yes, we already knew that, but they’ve also confirmed the film’s cast.

The director, a regularly active user of social media platforms Twitter and Facebook, took to the web last night to show off one his one-of-a-kind interior decor. Specifically, he posted a couple photos of his coffee table, a custom-made piece designed to look just like the Awesome Mix cassette tape so cherished by Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Aside from the larger connections in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s one thing that ties every one of their superhero films together, regardless of which studio is behind it: a cameo from comic book creator Stan Lee. Even ‘Big Hero 6’ gave Lee his own cameo in animated form. But James Gunn apparently almost disrupted this long-standing Marvel movie tradition, as the director revealed that he originally planned to kill off Stan Lee for his cameo in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’
