Ever since Marvel formally announced the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sorcerer Supreme in their upcoming ‘Doctor Strange’ film, we haven’t heard much else about the project. Set to be directed by Scott Derrickson, the film is currently scheduled for a 2016 release date, so it’s about time that we started hearing a little more about who else will be joining Cumberbatch as the project heads closer to production—like Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is reportedly in talks for a role.

Although it was reported near the end of October that Benedict Cumberbatch was in final negotiations to take the role of Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme in the ‘Doctor Strange’ movie, it took the studio until today to make the casting official. Marvel has sent out a formal announcement declaring Cumberbatch’s casting, while also offering a brief synopsis of their upcoming film.

Now that Joaquin Phoenix is out of the running for Marvel's 'Doctor Strange,' we're sure to be hearing more big names as the search is on for a major star to become the Sorcerer Supreme. And here's the latest rumor: Ewan McGregor is the current favorite to fill those magic shoes.

After months of negotiations, Joaquin Phoenix still hasn't accepted the title role in Marvel's 'Doctor Strange' and if you want to believe that latest rumor floating around the internet, Phoenix's hesitation and resistance is Ethan Hawke's gain. It's the worst kept secret in the superhero universe that Marvel is planning 'Doctor Strange' as one of their upcoming movies. He's a big part of the upcoming storyline in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (assuming, as we all are, they're following the Infinity Gauntlet plot) and we're simply waiting for the official announcement at this point.
