It's summertime in Colorado, it's hot and heat exhaustion can happen to anyone, but especially children. These are the signs of heat exhaustion in children.

It's very important for parents to recognize heat exhaustion in their children. Children are not able to endure the same exposure to heat as adults. The Medical Director at St. Mary's Urgent Care, Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell says to look for:

  • Fussy
  • Fatigue
  • Increase sweating and thirst
  • Upset Stomach

Be careful, heat exhaustion usually happens slowly. If it is not treated, it could develop into a stroke. Heat exhaustion can also still happen inside, especially if there's no AC. If you think you or your child are experiencing heat exhausted, drink lots of water, wear loose clothing, put on an ice pack and find some shade if you're outside.
