Grand Junction Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting.

Just a couple blocks from my place near downtown there were flashing lights this morning. Grand Junction police were called to the scene of a fatal shooting shortly after midnight. As of this morning, Main Street was closed near 12th street.

Here's the latest update from the Grand Junction Police Department:

"Shortly after midnight, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 Block of Main Street on a report of a shooting. Personnel with the GJPD and medical personnel with the Grand Junction Fire Department responded and located one adult male victim with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest inside the residence. Despite life saving efforts by law enforcement and  medical personnel, the victim was not able to be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses have been interviewed by law enforcement and, while no arrests have been made, there is not believed to be any outstanding safety threat to the community related to this incident."

The investigation is ongoing. The name of the victim hadn't been released at the time of this posting.
