Palisade's scenic Fruit and Wine Byway will be the benefactor of the Grand Valley Marathon on May 5, 2018.

The Fruit and Wine Byway is divided into three routes giving visitors by car or bike a chance to experience the beauty of the orchards and gardens around Palisade. As well as wineries, fruit and vegetable stands, and the Colorado River.

The Grand Valley Marathon typically features about 400 runners and walkers doing either a marathon, half marathon, 10k or 5k. The idea is to make it as family-friendly as possible, including children and strollers, and plenty of people participate as walkers.

These races will help support improvements to the byway.

Most of us would be frightened at the thought of running a marathon. That's why this event is so great because it has a running/walking event of varying distances for all ages and abilities.

Awards are given to the top three men and women overall finishers, but everyone who completes the race receives a medallion - a great souvenir of your efforts and participation. Registration fees range from $25-$65 depending on the particular event.

So, whether you are a serious runner, a weekend warrior, or just someone who enjoys being outdoors and experiencing the beauty of the Grand Valley, this is definitely an event you should consider supporting.
