Winning a brand new boat could be as easy as catching a mess of fish. The more fish you catch, the better chance you have of winning a fabulous prize.

The Ridgway State Park Tournament is underway through July 30 and offers $8,000 in prizes to participating anglers.

Here's how it works. For every smallmouth bass you catch and check in, you receive a raffle ticket. At the end of the tournament, six raffle tickets will be drawn to determine prize winners. You can check out the complete rules here.

The top prize in the Ridgway Fishing Tournament is a new boat!  This is a 14-foot tracker that comes with a trailer, motor, life jackets, and a fish finder.

Five single -person pontoon boats with oars and life jackets will also be awarded, plus anglers under age 12 will each receive a package of fishing lures who check in with a smallmouth bass.

The purpose of the tournament is to try and rid the reservoir of smallmouth bass, which Colorado Parks and Wildlife says is incompatible with endangered fish recovery in waters downstream from the reservoirs and puts native fish in jeopardy. They would like for anglers to catch and keep as many smallmouth bass as possible during this tournament.  They also want Northern Pike out of the reservoir, though they are not a part of this contest.

There is no entry fee to participate in the Ridgway tournament, but of course, there is the daily park entrance fee, and camping fees if you are camping. While there is no bag limit on smallmouth bass, everyone must have a fishing license.

Good luck, and happy fishing!
