Dec. 8, 2014, marks the 10th anniversary of Pantera / Damageplan guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott‘s tragic death. In remembrance of the guitar great, we’ve spoken to rock and metal’s greatest musicians to gather stories and testimonies of admiration towards the immortal shredder.

In the video above, the "Metal God" himself, Judas Priest's Rob Halford, tells the story of his introduction to Dimebag Darrell, first seeing him on Canada's MuchMusic and being so impressed with him that he called the station, which was nearby, and requested that he wait a few minutes so they could meet.

That meeting led to Halford spreading the word about Pantera to his bandmates and Judas Priest inviting Pantera to open for them. Halford recalls that tour, stating, "It was just so raw and primitive and real and so aggressive and new and this guy Dimebag was playing the guitar like nobody had played it before. And Phil and Rex and Vinnie, they were just going nuts."
